Fix: PC Won't Recognize Android Phone after Upgrade

Mobile phone is charging only but not recognized by computer after system update. Don't worry! Find a solution to let PC detect and recognize your Android handset after OS upgrade in this tutorial.

What is Happening?

Prior to updating to the latest software I could plug my phone into my computer and it would be detected and I could open up the files on my phone from my computer and drag and drop files. Since updating when I plug it in the phone will charge but my computer does not recognise it.
The causes of Android USB not detected but charging are various, but system update is one of the most common one. The problem is popular to see when people upgrade their smartphones to Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo.

Fix PC Won't Recognize Android Phone after Upgrade

Try these tricks first:
* Reboot your phone.
* Try a new USB cable and a new computer.
If the problem still exists, install or update proper driver for the upgraded mobile phone on your computer.
Update or install proper driver for updated phone
Sometimes Windows won’t recognize Android device because the driver doesn't work after OS upgrading. Hence, you need to update or install proper driver for your device. Following is one of the most effective method to do it. (Check more ways to install Android USB driver.)
Step 1. Go to Start> Control Panel.
Step 2. Click “System and Security”, then “System”.
Step 3. Click “Device Manager” on the left list.
Step 4. Locate and expand “Other devices” or “Portable devices” and find the driver. If there is a problem with the driver, it should be labelled with a yellow exclamation mark.
Step 5. Right click on the driver and choose “Update Driver Software…”.
Step 6. Successively choose “Browse my computer for driver software”> “Let me pick a list of device drivers on my computer”, then hit “MTP USB Device” and click Next. Once the driver is updated, connect your device again.
